Bryan Shirota is a Hilo-based photographer whose work centers on native Hawaiian birds and the fragile ecosystems that sustain them. A curious observer and amateur naturalist, his photographs often highlight relationships between endemic forest birds and the native plants they depend on.
Through exhibition and publication, Shirota bridges art and conservation, using photography as visual storytelling rooted in stewardship and responsibility. He is an active participant in community science efforts including the Hawai‘i Audubon Society. His work has been featured at the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, in Audubon magazine, and by conservation organizations supporting education and advocacy for native birds.
